Cool Contemporary Art in Stockholm

Elaine Sturtevant, also known as Sturtevant, was a revolutionary American artist who made a name for herself in contemporary art through her unique method of "repetition." By creating deliberately inaccurate copies of works by classic 20th-century male artists like Marcel Duchamp, Jasper Johns, and Andy Warhol, Sturtevant defied the notion of the artist as the sole creator and challenged the concept of originality, ultimately questioning what it means to create art.

One example of Sturtevant's work is her interpretation of Martial Raysse's famous 1965 painting named High Voltage Painting. By deliberately creating an inaccurate copy of Raysse's work, Sturtevant forces the viewer to confront their assumptions about what makes a work of art original and valuable.
